Mertz Law                                  Douglas Kemp Mertz
Employee Rights Law

The rights and responsibilities of employees and employers is an increasingly complex area of law. An employer can inadvertently become subject to large liabilities, despite no ill intent, under laws like the Americans with Disabilities Act, Title VII of the Civil Rights Act, and various other state and federal laws. Employees often accept discipline, discrimination, and termination in the workplace without realizing that they may have substantive rights which protect them from arbitrary employer action.

The Law Office of Douglas Mertz maintains an active caseload in the field of employment rights.

Mr. Mertz has:

  • Advised clients on the rights of employees who have participated in investigations of wrongdoing under federal and state " whistleblower protection" statutes
  • Worked with clients who have been disciplined and denied basic due process and hearing rights available under employment contracts and state law
  • Assisted clients in determining the best path through complex pension and retirement benefit systems.
  • Monitored and represented client interests before the Alaska State Pension Investment Board, the entity responsible for safe investment and stewardship of billions of dollars in public employee pension funds.

Mr. Mertz is a member of the National Employment Lawyers Association .
